Mondo: The Global Avant Garde | THE OTHER ROOM

Start date: Thursday 5th Nov 2015 Session times: Thursdays, 6.45 – 8.45pm, weekly. 5 sessions.

Explore a world of avant-garde poetry movements in SJ Fowler’s company and discover how their remarkable explorations in the written word often compliment, rather than antagonise, more formal writing practice. Over 5 sessions, 5 global avant-garde poetic movements will be used as references to springboard you into new writing techniques, stressing the possibility amidst the history. Covering five different movements of the post-war period, in five different nations, this course – with the energy, dynamism and invention of the writing it explores – will enrich anyone’s poetry horizons. In Mar., “The Visit,” the show he wrote with his late collaborator Fred Ebb & playwright Terrence McNally, started Broadway previews & went on to snag 5 Tony Awards nominations, together with one for brand spanking new musical. Around the same time, another Kander & Ebb musical, “Cabaret,” wrapped up its most up-to-date revival after Michelle Williams & Emma Stone each one turned heads within the direct role. In May Kander & Ebb’s 1968 musical “Zorba!” got a quickie showcase as part of NYC Center’s annual yearly Encores! collection, while the longrunning 1996 Broadway revival of their musical “Chicago” inched ever nearer to 20 years of time of time on the boards. Oh, & he’s additionally got a fresh musical, “Kid Victory” (written with playwright Greg Pierce), in that premiered at the D.C. area’s Signature Theater in Feb. and can play Off Broadway’s Vineyard Theater next yr. …
