Amazing Mill Markets National Vintage Fashion Awards 2014 ...

Posted on December 4, 2014

The Amazing Mill Markets National Vintage Fashion Awards was a huge success at the Geelong Revival Motoring Festival 2014. Pin up personality Miss Ruby Rabbit was a fine host for the occasion, sporting a Farrah Fawcett-esque 70s look on Saturday and a stunning yellow ensemble on Sunday.

Saturday saw our entrants dusting off their best outfits from the 60s, 70s and even 80s. Our fantastic sponsors The Amazing Mill Markets was a popular choice amongst entrants with many choosing to shop there for their outfits. The judges – Janina (Piccadilly Market) Leighanne (Hats by Leighanne Michelle), Ryan (Rockabilly Adventures), Erica (Artwear Publications) and Kerry (Vintage Fun-K) had a tough job on their hands when it came to picking a winner!

The best dressed award went to the gorgeous Stacy Pink. Stacy lived up to her name in a very pink outfit purchased at the Amazing Mill Markets. Straight out of a racing suit and into a 1970s jumpsuit, the always entertaining “DriftCat” Catherine Coleiro was a very groovy runner up! In an outfit inspired by the 60s and her vintage icon Bridgitte Bardot, Karen Oliver was awarded third place. Peter Hearsum, a crowd favourite, took out the Dapper Dan award for the best dressed male.

As the temperatures rose on Sunday, our entrants took a further step back in time as we showcased pre 1960s fashion. While the 40s and 50s were the most popular decades of inspiration we had some gorgeous 20s style outfits and even some stunning handmade outfits inspired by patterns from the Victorian era. Once again our judges – Lenny (Lenny’s Custom Clothing), Ryan (Rockabilly Adventures), Kerry (Vintage Fun-K), Erica (Artwear Publications) – had their work cut out for them to choose a winner.

The Von Ruby best dressed award went to Fiona Lane in an authentic 1940s Lili Ann suit. Fiona channeled her vintage icon Coco Chanel as she strutted down the catwalk. Grace Ann Griffith was a well deserved runner up in her authentic 50s midnight blue evening gown! Third place went to Joelle who was wearing a handmade, Victorian style outfit and accessorising with a parasol and fascinator. Inspired by Frank Sinatra, Marcus Williams was a very Dapper Dan indeed.

Overall the inaugural Amazing Mill Markets National Vintage Fashion Awards was a fantastic event and many people who attended the Geelong Revival Motoring Festival over the weekend also chose to dress up in vintage style outfits to fit in with the theme of the event.
