The Lady Statesmen cross country team finished in seventh place at the Mississippi College DII Challenge 5K in Clinton, Miss., on Oct. 25.

The race was held at Choctaw Trails, and it was fast and furious. The race consisted of mostly Gulf South Conference sides including Delta State, North Alabama, Alabama Huntsville, and more.

The race started off well for some of the GSC teams, as it was becoming a fast paced race which started off slow.

Two Alabama Huntsville runners, Kailey Williams and Michelle Kruse, battled with two Union runners, Janey Brends and Audrey Hazlehurst.

The battle was tight as the two group combinations battled it out for victory. The Lady Statesmen meanwhile were looking for new records to break in the race.

Williams won the race for Alabama Huntsville at 18:28.34, while her teammate Kruse came second with 18:30.72.

Brends finished third for Union, with a time of 18:56.12, while her teammate Hazlehurst came in fourth with a time of 18:57.42.

They came a second ahead of each other while they attempted to put pressure on the Alabama Huntsville front runners.

For Delta State, senior Tressa Lamb finished 18th with the time of 19:46.93. She had a great race in the event.

Hannah Register and Madison Nash broke their own record in the race. Register finished 51st with her new fastest time record of 21:37.48.

Nash finished in 21:59.51, a personal best time. She came in 56th place.

Next, the Lady Statesmen will compete in the Gulf Southern Conference Championship 5K, which will be held on Nov. 8 at Hoover, Ala.
