Top 5 Short Styles For Winter ? Find The Right Hairstyle For Your ...

Short hair styles are all the rage this winter, with Keira Knightley being the most recent to join the celebrity bobs and crops parading up the red carpet. Before you make that impulsive but exciting dash to your local salon though, have a read of our top 5 short styles and make sure your chosen style will suit your face shape. Professional hairstylists should be able to give you the dos and don’ts of looking good with your new style this winter, but just to get you started the basics are covered below, alongside a few fresh styling tips and hair care product recommendations to get you that celeb winter style.

Heart: Wide at the forehead and cheekbones, narrow at the jawline

Both Reese Witherspoon and Katie Holmes have the classic heart shaped face and have successfully achieved various gorgeous short styles over the years. My favourite for the heart shaped face is the chin length bob with tapered ends, perfect when combined with side swept bangs to draw attention to the eyes. If you want to add an edge to this look try an asymmetrical cut to create a more eye-catching bob.

To maintain this look try a de-frizzing serum hair care product alongside your normal hair care routine. Also remember if using styling tools such as straighteners to achieve your look, use heat defence products to protect your hair and ensure a nourished finish.

Round: Circular shaped. Length is approx equal to width

For those of you with a round face shape it is important to ensure that your cut doesn’t accentuate this. If you have fine straight hair try the popular shoulder length bob like Gwyneth Paltrow, or alternatively, if your hair has a natural wave, a shorter bob with layers like Michelle Williams’ will create a complimentary balance. For curly hair, be careful with shorter lengths and use styling hair products to ensure a textured finish.

Other useful hair care products to master these styles include thickening spray and a mild hair spray to help the hair hold its shape, and avoiding flyaways.

Oval: Curvilinear shape. Length is equal to one and a half times width, with

forehead and jaw the same width

If you are lucky enough to have an oval face shape then most short styles will work for you. One of the more popular looks recently for celebs with oval faces is the pixie crop. Both Emma Watson and Rhianna have pulled this style off with huge success.

If you do decide to go for the pixie look then there are plenty of hair care products out there to help you alter the style for different occasions; ranging from texturising gel to more discreet mousse or styling wax hair products.

Long: Face is longer than it is wide with a long straight cheek line

If you have straight hair, you can create more width with bangs, taking the emphasis away from your forehead and adding width. Chin-length bobs are also ideal, they create the illusion of width and give your face a more even appearance.

If you do choose a sleek chin-length bob, there are plenty of hair care products available to perfect your look, from nourishing conditioners that add shine to colour maintaining products for those who have built on their look with highlights to add a textured and thicker feel.

Square: Strong and broad forehead with angular jaw

If you have a square face with angular features then avoid blunt one-length cuts, instead if you go for a bob then make sure it softens your features with a tapered angled finish. Alternatively, if you have the defined features of Keira Knightley then you may want to emphasise your features with a textured crop and use bangs to compliment your style. Be careful though as accentuating angular features won’t work flatteringly for everyone.

In terms of what hair care products will suit you best, a volumising, root lifting spray rarely fails to improve a look and there are a number of products that help to accentuate natural waves and shape which will take the focus off angular features.

ShopRush stocks all your favourite brands of hair care products, like Tigi hair products and Kerastase hair products, to bring you all the tools you need, at fantastic prices.
