For the first two rounds of Wimbledon 2014, the top seeds have not had to play each other. In some cases that didn’t matter as a few of them still left early, the victims of upsets. Not so with Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. These two top contenders have rolled through the first couple of rounds, brushing aside overmatched opponents. Masha was sharp on serve and even came in to the net more than usual in ousting Timea Bacsinszky, 6-2 6-1. The third round is where seeds start to meet. However, 23-year old American Alison Riske upset 26th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the first round. She followed up by taking out Camila Giorgi. Because of that, Alison will get her chance to upset Masha in a surprise third round match. Their one career head to head was on grass in Birmingham, with Sharapova winning in 3 sets. But that was back in 2010. Both players are at different places now with their games.
