A police officer in San Diego was forced to shoot three pit bulls that were involved in an attack on Dillard Street near Division Street according to reports.
The San Diego Police Department said there were multiples instances of an attack. In the first instance a 78-year-old man was bitten in the face and on the arm. Norma Williams and Michael Ward, 18, were also bitten on Petal Drive nearby.
An officer arrived on scene and was able to shoot all three dogs when they charged him. Mr. Ward and Ms. Williams had only minor injuries, while the elderly man was hospitalized.
According to the United States Postal Service, Los Angeles was the worst city for dog attacks against mail carriers in 2012 with 69 reported incidents. The United States Postal Service reports that 4,879 of its employees were attacked by dogs in 2012.
