Creative Scotland has announced the creation of nine regional hubs that will be the cornerstone of its Time to Shine youth arts strategy, an initiative that has been allocated £5 million over two years.
Covering the whole of Scotland, the hubs have been allocated a total of £3.1 million.
Each hub has a lead organisation with involvement from a range of local partners. Although the emphasis is on a range of performing arts, many local partners include theatres, such as the Glasgow Tron, as well as youth theatre and dance companies.
The hubs are in Aberdeen, Argyll, Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Fife, Glasgow, Highlands, Moray and West Dumbartonshire – and are designed to increase access “to youth arts across Scotland”.
Leonie Bell, director of arts and engagement at Creative Scotland, said: “Through making connections and developing new projects these hubs will enable more children and young people to take part in creative activities close to where they live.”
