The Kentucky Wildcats haven’t had many playmakers grace their program in recent memory, and the only notable offensive player they’ve had is current Green Bay Packers receiver Randall Cobb. The do-it-all receiver will line up at WR, move into the backfield at running back and occasionally even plays some wildcats quarterback.
That was how UK used Cobb, and that’s how their using true freshman Ryan Timmons, who has been a go-to option for the Cats this year, and he was named to the College Football Awards Freshman Performer of the Year Watch list today.
He is currently second in receiving with 19 catches for 209 yards and one touchdown and fourth in rushing with eight carries for 88 yards. He’s also averaging 11 yards per reception or rush attempt and scored his first collegiate touchdown last weekend against South Carolina on a 14-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the endzone.
Timmons is one of 32 FBS players and one of four Southeastern Conference players to make the watch list. According to the release, the watch list is a rough guide, highlighting freshmen whose performances merit recognition.
