The Beauty Stop Nail Lacquer Lessons from Jin Soon Choi

September 24, 2013

Whether you are a fan of nail art or nude nails, we can all learn a thing or two from Jin Soon Choi. She is the wizard behind three very successful hand and foot spas in New York, a polish pro with her own line and a favorite of celebs like Anne Hathaway and Michelle Williams.

She has three lessons that she shared with Shape to make the most out of every manicure.

#1 – For a longer lasting mani, paint the tips of your nails with a second light layer of base coat before applying your color coat. This area sees the most action and will chip the fastest. “With constant texting and typing, polish chips from this area first.”

#2 – Drops and sprays that claim to speed up the process usually don’t work very well, but beyond that…they dull your nail color. Instead of covering your claws in more chemicals, Jin suggest using the “cool shot” button on your hairdryer to speed up the drying process.

#3 – The best manicure comes from a healthy and clean canvas. She has adapted some of the beauty tips from the French and only gets a manicure once a month. “The chemicals that create a lasting bond can also cause nails to become dry and brittle.”

Jin also emphasizes the fact that you should NOT pick polish off your nails. It weakens the nail and causes breakage. For cuticles, she is a fan of pushing versus cutting. You can read more about the damage cutting your cuticles causes by clicking here…
