Director Sam Raimi returns with his first offering to the Big Screen since his Spiderman 3 Debacle which perhaps cost him a huge payday with Spiderman 4, and he returns to what has brought him to the dance, the story which tells the originals of the man who known to many became The Wizard of Oz. Raimi whom masters in the art of story telling, unfortunately suffers from Spidey fever, crafts a beautiful tale, but when the main character Oz, played by Spiderman’s James Franco glowers through the screen, it truly is hard to take him seriously.

Franco plays Oz, a Kansas City showman who through circumstance gets whisks away from his surroundings ala Dorothy in the original Wizard Of Oz to the far of land of Flying Monkeys, little people known as munchkins, and of course the Witches and the women of Oz, with Rachel Weisz playing Evanora; Michelle Williams playing Annie/Glinda, and of course the women who steals the show from Franco every time she is on screen, and I am referring to the very sexy Mila Kunis who literally saves Oz from being a stinkfest.

Raimi is always loyal to the people who have worked for him, but Franco doesn’t shine, even with the song and dance number he rambles through.

Oz, The Great and Powerful is good for the kids but if you want to leave your brain at home while movie is on screen.

Oz, The Great and Powerful has some moments, but if you have seen the previews you pretty much have seen the movie. The movie has a 2 Hour and 10 minute running time and is rated PG.

My rating: 5 out of 10
